Lavish Bakery is inspired by tradition and shaped by the community around it. Starting with our love for old-fashioned artisan bread making, we add flavors and techniques from the diverse cultures and traditions of people we meet in our community. From Alberta-grown rye bread, to Jerusalem bagels like you'll find fresh every morning in the Old City, to our chai coconut Indian-fusion bread--we believe baking bread is a beautiful language that transcends cultural, social, economic, and political barriers.
As Calgary's first social venture bakery, we partner with social service agencies to meaningfully employ people transitioning out of difficult circumstances—like addictions, homelessness, and exploitation—and teach them how to bake the best bread in Calgary. We are committed to paying them a living wage so they can transition into a more sustainable and thriving life.
We also partner with local, sustainable grocers, growers, and farmers who inspire us to be better stewards of our environment, because if we take care of our land it'll take care of us. By sourcing our ingredients locally, we help strengthen both the natural and economic ecosystem of this little corner of earth we all share.
Lavish Bakery invests in the margins of our society to help restore and grow the socioeconomic fabric of our city. By nurturing the people and environment around us, we work together to create a more hopeful and vibrant city for everyone. The more connected we are to each other, our community, and our environment, the stronger we become as a society.
We are developing an exciting, new storefront concept in Calgary's vibrant and diverse Northeast. We're aiming to open Spring/Summer 2018, so keep an eye on our website and social media for updates!
After we open our storefront, we'll continue doing regular pop-ups around town so you won't have to travel far to come say hi.
In the meantime, if you have a big event coming up that needs fresh-baked goodness, please reach out to us about catering options.

+Lavish Bakery believes in being good stewards of the earth. The better we care for it, the better it cares for us. We use organic ingredients whenever possible and are working with local farmers and grocers towards sourcing 100% of our ingredients organically and locally within Alberta.
Lavish Bakery partners with some amazing people and organizations in Calgary who selflessly advocate for others. They come alongside individuals and families facing multiple barriers to achieving a standard of living that allows them to grow and thrive in our city. One of the biggest barriers is meaningful employment. We love how Thrive Calgary frames the conversation:
What if everyone had a job that allowed them to take care of themselves and their families? What if no one had to choose between earning money and having time to have a life? What if people earning low wages had access to meaningful, career-track jobs that paid a living wage? What if our jobs actually enhanced our lives and made our neighbourhoods more vibrant and resilient? What if truly meaningful employment were the norm?
Lavish Bakery was founded to see lives transformed through partnerships with like-minded people who leverage each other's strengths to achieve more than they could on their own. As we grow and need to hire more staff, our plan is to hire our employees through our partners. We are building our capacity to offer meaningful employment at a living wage, helping to knock down one barrier as our partners empower them to knock down others.
We were created to be in community, and these are some of our awesome neighbours:
